One week until application deadline for our master program!

Yes, dear readers, that is right. Only one week remaining until our application window for the Master Program in Human Factors and Systems Safety closes. All of you who intent to apply, make sure to get the application form signed by your employer and submitted to Alexandra Hertz before October 15.

We are then looking forward to have you over in Lund for the first learning laboratory that takes place on January 16-20.

Formal invitation to my thesis defence

Dear readers, again very welcome to my PhD thesis defence. The time is still 10:15 on 15 June in the lecture hall V:B, V-huset, John Ericssons väg 1, Lund. Faculty opponent will be Erik Hollnagel and it will surely be a couple of hours of severe sweating. The defence seminar will be followed by a lunch and a one-hour workshop in which you as the audience will get the opportunity to engage in interesting discussions with four prominent professors: Sidney Dekker, Britt-Marie Drottz Sjöberg, Inge Svedung and Kurt Petersen (unfortunately Erik Hollnagel has had to declare that he is not able to attend). The theme of these discussions will be: The research within Risk Management and Systems Safety in 2020; where are we heading?

Video and slides of my keynote at Velocity 2013 in Santa Clara

Dear readers, last week I gave a keynote at Velocity, a conference focusing on web operations and performance. The keynote, entitled What, Where and When is risk in system design?, focused on the notion of risk from a more philosophical perspective outlining different frames of constructing risk applied to the domain of web operations and web performance.

The keynote was recorded and later also edited to also include the slides that I used. It is now published on YouTube, so here you go - a 26 minute introduction to the notion of risk:

One month left to apply to our MSc programme in human factors and system safety

Dear readers,

The most privileged and rewarding part of my job at Lund university includes working with our MSc Programme in Human Factors and System Safety.

With students representing practitioners at different levels in a wide range of high-risk industries we are proud to provide a space for critical reflections and learning across domains.

Recently we produced a number of videos to further explain the philosophy of the programme and its teaching methods. These videos include one introduction video, one video with answers to some of our most frequently asked questions, as well as testimonials from three of our students. I have posted all five videos below for you to enjoy.
